"BLACK SHEEP": THE VIOLENCE OF THE LAMBS!
SHAUN OF THE DEAD meets SLITHER in this zombie-esque mutant killer sheep film called "BLACK SHEEP". Ah yes, another European horror/comedy comes our way, only this time it comes in the form of New Zealand and it's cuddly grazing sheep.
At first glance, the idea of a film about killer sheep sounded crazy and ridiculous, but at the same time funny. This film was all it presented itself to be and makes no bones about trying to hide it. It was stupid, funny, gory, violent and depending how easily you get frightened, it had its scary moments of things jumping out at you. The movie makes fun of itself, never taking it too seriously. After all, it's a story about sheep that go crazy and start eating people, how could it. But that's what made it fun and entertaining.
The story is a very simple one that revolves around two brothers, HENRY, the bad brother and ANGUS, the good brother who has a phobia of sheep, and their family farm. But when Henry starts to experiment in genetic engineering of the sheep, all hell breaks loose, thanks to the two animal rights activist who steal an altered sheep and one of them gets bitten by it. The outbreak occurs and now you got zombie sheep roaming about the grasslands looking to feast on human flesh. And now it's up to young Angus and the female activist to stop the sheep and his brother from spreading the disease.
With some great special effect and animatronics, the movie lends itself to that of a splatter genre. You not only have to take the film for what it is, but you have to laugh at its attempts to pull off a killer sheep film. But as goofy and outlandish as it was, it still managed to entertain and surprise me. The script was fun with some great one-liners such as this: "You're a tree!"... "I'm not a tree, I'm a f---ing sheep!" You'll have to watch it to get that one in it's context. But it's the special effects that make this film. As WETA Workshop turned a man into a sheep that stood up on its hind hoofs and chased its prey around.
This film doesn't try to be great and it's not. But as far as comedy/horrors go, it's a delightful piece of fun that keeps you watching with gore and laughs. So if you like Slither or Shaun of the Dead, than you're sure to dig BLACK SHEEP!
This film is Unrated.

I saw this film as a " damn it, missed the one I wanted to see" by the time it was over I was glad I missed the one I wanted to see. It's stupid, but it's a GOOD stupid!
Good review!

It's funny, I have this itch to want to watch it again. There's just something appealing about this movie. Now that I had time to process it, I think it's better than I originally thought, which is probably why I want to watch it again. Killer sheep, that's funny stuff!
