Ahh yes, how I love my Mac, let me count the ways. 1. On second thought, I won't bore you with the details. Besides, it's a personal thing. And that's the point. The best part of being a Mac user. Personalization! If you buy a home or rent an apartment, what's the first thing you do? Okay, after that? You personalize it right? You make it yours so that when you and your people walk in, it's your environment that has just been entered. Why shouldn't you be able to do that with your computer? You know, put those phat 22's (or whatever the kids are driving around on these day's) on your system of choice.
This is one of the area's that the Mac absolutely excels in, squashing the competition with it's quick chop shop like abilities. Don't like the way this looks? Change it! Don't like the way that acts? Change it. Want more control over your system? Get You Control! Man I love this software! You Control says what it means and means what it says.
I cannot stand clutter. I'm the Felix Unger (sans the sinus problem and...) of computer users. I cannot take a bunch of stuff all over my desktop or Hard Drive. In fact, my desktop rarely has anything on it. Another thing I cannot stand is clicking on the hard drive and searching for files I want. No it's not a big deal, takes a few seconds to do, but for some reason I just don't like it. This is where You Control comes in and works some kinda magic on your Mac. With You Control, you can place your entire Mac in your menu bar. Every doc, every pic, every app, every everything.
Need a number from your address book but don't want to wait for it to open?
Move your mouse over the "address Book" icon. BAMM! All of your contacts & details in an instant!
Need to check an event in your calendar? Move your mouse over the "calendar events" icon, BAMM! Your events. This one I really love. I don't care how fast your Mac is, opening iCal is an event all by its self!
Does it have it's own News Reader? Funny you should ask that. Why would you even expect it? But yes, yes it does, and it works. I had a few problems with certain types of feeds but customer service was great. They were quick to answer and tell me how to get the feeds in question to work. I'm a firm believer in customer service being nine-tenths of the law. It means everything. Here are few other modules:
Weather
Pasteboard
Mail
Disk Monitor
iTunes
Yes you can! Put iTunes on your menu bar and control it without opening iTunes.
There are so, so many functions associated with You Control that I could spend six or seven pages describing them all. This is one hellava piece of software. And the best part is YOU CONTROL it. You make it work to fit your needs and computing style. Create any list, any way you want. Put them up in the corners of your menu bar, click the corner and the list you made drops down, giving you access to whatever you put there. I can go a week without ever opening my hard drive. You gotta love that right? Don't cha!?
Go over to YouSoftware and download the fully functional trail version. If you're like me, personalization, full control and quick easy access is a desired computing experience, than you're going to love You Control, just like me.
