Axium, one of the largest entertainment payroll companies, with branches internationally and domestically, has just shut it's doors. Although this could be blamed on the writers strike, which has affected many people and companies within it's sphere, I highly doubt it. When I tried to reach out to the different numbers, I got voicemail prompts, but when I spoke to a close friend in New York, she said that it doesn't look good at all and that there were rumors within middle management circles that the company might not make it, however she is trying to remain optomistic although plenty of people were devastated. According to Filmmaker magazine blog, Axium is filing a Chapter 7 bankruptcy, so this is more about mismanagement than about blaming the writers, a company of this stature should be able to weather this strike, not fold like a lawn chair. The employees help to run the company with the sweat of their brow and are always the last to know when things aren't going well, thank you and get out! We shall see in the coming days how the rest of this unfolds.

Such a shame for all of the contractors and vendors who aren't getting paid and especially the companies who are scrambling to regroup. As an Employer of Record company, we were affected too.
