After talking with a corporate accountant for a major studio in Los Angeles, he told me that he was asked to do a variety of scenarios based on the present state of his company and the amount of money that has been lost. The main question was, what is the maximum time that strike can continue before the bottom would literally start to fall out? He told me yesterday that after going over the scenarios, two weeks is all that any major studio has before the hope of pilot season or a regular season would pretty much vanish. The next mark being June, which would then be for the 09' season, but the hemorrhaging would be so extensive in the form of layoffs, it is a scenario that he dares not to explore. The studios did manage to have some gains through the strike, through Force Majeure they were able to terminate/suspend some of their deals with producers and actors and they will sign fewer overall deals going forward. There has been a massive reduction of network shows for this season already and both sides realize that within this two week period everyone, I mean EVERYONE IS GONNA BE UNEQUIVOCALLY SCREWED!! At this point every industry person needs to be leaning on both sides to not only "talk" but get this Shite settled. Studios have already started laying off upper/middle/lower level employees. We will keep you updated.
