Google Updates And Integrates Apps For The iPhone

Gmail_77702a_en

I'm always amazed when Google spends time updated and working on products for the iPhone. When Android hits the street it will be in a heavy fight with the iPhone, or maybe they simply feel their coming product will be so superior that they are in no way worried.

What ever the case, until then Google has updated the interface for Google Apps on the iPhone.

"Gmail – To run Gmail as a fast web application, visit mail.google.com/a/your-domain.com in Safari on your iPhone, but remember to replace "your-domain.com" in this address with your actual domain name.

Alternatively, you can connect to your Gmail account with your iPhone's Mail application, using IMAP for free.

Google Calendar – To run Google Calendar as a fast web application, visit calendar.google.com/a/your-domain.com in Safari on your iPhone, but remember to replace "your-domain.com" in this address with your actual domain name.

Google Docs – To run Google Docs as a fast web application, visit docs.google.com/a/your-domain.com in Safari on your iPhone, but remember to replace "your-domain.com" in this address with your actual domain name."

Google Hits 1 day Record Gain

Googleearth17

As many were embarking on a weekend of staying at home due to $4.00 a gallon gas prices, Google was busy cleaning up and making a few already wealthy Google investors some serious cash.  The internet giant cleaned up with a whopping $89.87 share surge and finished $539.41, the largest one day gain since Google went public in 2004.

Thanks to a eye catching post over at PalmAddicts, I, and by "I" I mean you, can turn your GMail account into something you fancy.   "Gmail Redesigned" works with the FireFox Plugin "Stylish"  which allows you to change the appearance of any website in your browser.

Now the Firefox plugin has turned its eye toward GMail, which is a good thing.  The bad thing is it's only for Firefox.  Oh well....

Google Aims At Microsoft through The Scope Of Salesforce

Salesforcegtalk  Steve Ballmer just lost a wee bit more hair and could now be considering keeping his tongue in his mouth.   Google and SalesForce have joined hands to sing around the Google Apps fire where Google hopes to keep Microsoft out in the cold.

Google Docs, Gtalk, GMail the kit-n-kaboodle will now be integrated into the gigantic workforce cyberspace entity that is Salesforce.

Users will now be able to take full advantage of all of Googles online productivity applications from inside their accounts, bringing them closer to the Google way and further from the Microsoft way.

This is a good fight, I predicted long ago that Google would meet Microsoft on the playground after 3.

Okay, so it wasn't really a prediction.

Google Puts The Sharing Ease In Gadgets

Screenshot2  My favorite Goggle Gadget is Pac-Man.  Every so often I go over to my iGoogle, open it up a play a few quick games.  Not sure how Googles new sharing will work for a game like Pac-Man, but Google has made it easier for users to share their favs with others.

Unlike before, users can share their gadgets with friends the same way they would with Google Docs.  Users can now allow anyone the ability to edit and add to your Gadget content.

"Step 1: Click the triangle on the gadget you want to share and click "Share this gadget."

Step 2: If you're a Gmail user, just pick the friends you want to share with or type in their email addresses.

Step 3: Decide whether you want to let your friends edit your gadget content or just view it on their iGoogle page and click "Send invites." Your friends will get an email from you and they will be able to see a preview of the gadget in the email and add it to their own iGoogle page."

Opera Mini Ready For Googles Android?

Operalogo  Oh baby!  Android is really starting to heat up, as I said a few days each passing day will most likely bring us new word through hands on video or dev team beta's.

Today's word: Opera Mini.  It's ready for testing on any Android emulator by any of the many Android developers out there and I have to imagine they will all jump at the chance to give it a spin.

From Opera Labs:

This section details the issues we faced when making the Opera Mini port over to Android:

First, the Android platform is a very fresh set of APIs. There is not much information available on the web, and the community around Android is just forming, so sometimes it is difficult to find an answer if something during development is not going very well and you have questions. Other people involved in Android development are very willing to help others, however
Next, you need to consider that Android is not a finished product yet - for example, the last SDK update changed a large number of the APIs, so as we fixed existing issues, new problems appeared; the most serious being performance degradation of the emulator, which we are currently working on
We still have no access to any hardware that will run Android. It is currently impossible to say how fast Opera Mini will run on real devices
Integration between the Eclipse IDE and the Android SDK is seamless, making for a nice coding experience. The Android emulator however runs inside QEMU, which is a bit to slow even on fast desktops. This is quite annoying and we hope it will improve in the next SDK updates

Try it yourself!
As mentioned above, there is currently no hardware available that will run Android, but you can still try the Opera Mini Android version out using the Android SDK and emulator. Here's how (these steps are basically the same on any platform that runs the SDK):

Download and install latest version of Android SDK
Obtain the Opera Mini for Android package
Once you have installed the Android SDK, start the Android emulator that comes with it (this can be found at {Android home}/tools/emulator
Transfer and install the Opera Mini package into the emulator - you can do this with the following command line input - {Android home}/tools/adb install OperaMini.apk

Google Presentations Now Supports Export To PowerPoint

Dands_sheet   I am of the firm belief that Google is well on its way to making those expensive office suites a thing of the past.  The more I use them the more I like them and the less I use Office for Mac.  Not that I'm mocking Office because it's not bad for a Windows app on a Apple machine.

But Google continues to eat away at it's virtues.  The latest is more of a tasting than it is a eating.  Now Google Presentations can be exported for use in PowerPoint.

"You can now export a Google Presentation to the PowerPoint (.ppt) file format.

Editions impacted:
Standard, Premier, Education, Team and Partner Editions

Languages impacted:
US English

How to access what's new:
Sign in to Google Docs, open a presentation and choose "Save as PPT" from the "File" menu.

Android Shows Up On A Nokia N810

Androidn810  Android, the much anticipated new OS coming from Google to your favorite device has been spotted on no less then a Nokia N810.

Does this mean that Android is closer than we think?  Let's hope so because according to this person, they were able to get the OS running on the tablet themselves.   We may see the OS show up on a few other devices soon, before we see the official release.

IS Your GMail Being Rejected?

Gmailcontest  One of the best things to come along in years is Gmail.  That's my opinion anyway.  There are a ton of great features that Gmail provides, but the best of which is the Spam-Blocking.

Since I began using GMail, I haven't received a single piece of spam crap in my inbox, not even one.   It all goes into the spam filter, and even with that it's no more than ten to twenty a week.

But lately there have been reports of some problems where GMail users are having their mail rejected by Anti-Spam filters.  How can this be?  After all, this is Google we're talking about.

Well it seems some spammers were able to hack into the "CAPTCHA", this has allowed spammers to use Googles GMail Googlemail IP as the offending address.  This of course results in your email being blocked by anyone with an aggressive Spam-Filter.  Google is working on a fix for the problem.

If you happen to know a spammer. ..... You know what you should do.
