DVD Release: GHOST RIDER... another comic turned movie goes down in flames!
Having wished I hadn't seen this movie, I can't figure out why the producing team thought this could ever be a good movie. As a comic book I'm sure it works cause it's a comic. But as a movie and make it be cool? Where a stunt motorcyclist Johnny Blaze trades his soul to the devil and becomes a vigilante as his head turns into a flaming skull and fights to take down Blackheart, the devils son. Come on already! Hollywood, for the love of God, stop turning every comic into a movie cause you're ruining the glory and preservation of the comic itself. Certainly Ghost Rider isn't the first, (i.e. Fantastic Four 1 & 2 and Incredible Hulk) and won't be the last to travel down the disappointing and wasteful road of filmmaking. This train wreck of a movie waste no time getting derailed starting from it's ridiculous religious storyline to bad over acting to plot holes and stupid character idiosyncrasies (Nicholas Cage eating candy from a Martini glass). There is no emotion in this film nor do you want to ride along with the "Ghost Rider" on his quest for vengeance and love. Speaking of love, its attempt at a love story for a sub-plot is pathetic at best. If you can't make it work, don't write it in. This movie would have been better served without it. And then maybe more time could have been spent developing the real story, if indeed one could be found. The only glimmer of light that shines in this dark monstrosity is Sam Elliot. He plays the cemetery caretaker and he plays it cool, never over acting and just has the presence of a bad ass without trying to be one. This movie would have been better served with more screen time of one Mr. Sam Elliot. But unfortunately, not even him could rescue this film from burning in the fiery pits of hell from which it came. Lets just pray the studio doesn't think it's worthy of a sequel. This film is rated PG-13 for horror violence and disturbing images.
