Update: Mozilla’s Thunderbird 2 email -2.0.0.14

Img_5609_thunderbird_450x360

Mozilla has released an update to their Thunderbird 2 email client.  2.0.0.14 is the new build for those who are using the, well I'll just say it, obscure email.

But if you're in obscurity then you'll want to upload to take care of some memory leaks causing crashes.

"Mozilla Thunderbird is a redesign of the Mozilla mail component. Our goal is to produce a cross platform stand alone mail application using the XUL user interface language. Our intended customer is someone who uses Mozilla Firebird (or another stand alone browser) as their primary browser and wants a mail client based on mozilla that "plays nice" with the browser. In addition, by focusing solely on stand alone mail, we believe we can make some dents in the overall footprint and performance of the mail client by removing components and chrome we don't need. On top of that, the UI becomes much cleaner as a stand alone application as opposed to being part of the mozilla suite.

In addition to the feature set found in Mozilla Mail, Thunderbird has several new features and improvements to make your mail and new experience better. Highlights include:
The ability to customize your toolbars the way you want them. Choose View / Toolbars / Customize inside any window.
UI extensions can be added to Mozilla Thunderbird to customize your experiene with specific features and enchancements that you need. Support for extensions. Extensions allow you to add features particular to your needs such as offline mail support. A full list of available extensions can be found here.
A new look and feel. Thunderbird also supports a large number of downloadable themes which alter the appearance of the client.
An addressing sidebar for mail compose which makes it easy and convient to add address book contacts to emails.
Online help includes a FAQ, tips and tricks and other useful information.
Simplified preferences UI and menus.
Footprint and performance improvements.

What's new in this version:
MFSA 2008-15 Crashes with evidence of memory corruption (rv:1.8.1.13)
MFSA 2008-14 JavaScript privilege escalation and arbitrary code execution

Operating System Requirements:
This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:
Mac OS X 10.5 Intel
Mac OS X 10.5 PPC
Mac OS X 10.4 Intel
Mac OS X 10.4 PPC
Mac OS X 10.3.9
Mac OS X 10.3
Mac OS X 10.2"

Media Flo, As seen through The Eyes Of A LG Vu

You wont get too many choices for what you want to watch your At&t Media Flo on, but you will watch Media Flo, soon.

As seen in this YouTube video, Media Flo is getting a workout on the LG Vu Flo capable mobile phone to be released with the official launch, which should become official fairly soon.  Like in 3 days soon.

But, ask yourself this.  If you're willing to buy a $300 dollar phone just so you can watch a few tiny TV shows, what's really gone on?

Firefox Is On Fire In Europe

Firefoxlogo

29%, that's right 29% is the overall share of the browser using market share in Europe, according to Xiti, a european web metrics company.  Slovenia, Poland and Finland seem to be going wild over the Fox with Andorra being the highest Firefox growth market.

Firefox use is said to be growing strong worldwide with no real plausible reasoning behind it.   Firefox dropped by 1% in North America, I can only hope that the drop is due to Safari for windows.  After dealing with IE 6/7/8 for the past week, my hatred for the browser as increased ten-fold.

Texas + Starbucks + AT&T = The Start Of Something WiFi

Starbucksgreenteafrap

It's been talked about for quite sometime and now it is finally right around the corner.  The big AT&T Starbucks partnership to bring WiFi to customers kicked off int the state that makes fun of Starbucks coffee drinkers.

But on May 1st,  qualifying AT&T high speed Internet and Wi-Fi customers will have complimentary access at over 7,000 outlets, for free.

"With the power of our Wi-Fi network, and through our partnership with
Starbucks, we're strengthening our ability to meet the needs of today's
mobile consumer virtually anywhere and everywhere," Stephenson said.
"Expanding our reach across company-operated Starbucks locations nationwide
helps us bridge the gap between our wired and wireless offerings and
affirms AT&T's commitment to connect people with their worlds, everywhere
they live and work."

In five years we will all live in Starbucks apartment buildings, communicate only through new and improved iPhone wizardry and give AT&T 40% of our monthly salaries to AT&T.   Just because.

Social Networking Goes Social Security! GetBack Media Goes Live

Getback

"March 1, 1972

RetroMinute

Wilt Chamberlain hits 30,000 points • John Lennon gets his work visa • Roger Daltrey turns 28 • The Carol Burnett Show is on TV."

TVLand turned Social Networking hits your Internet Browser today.  GetBack Media is launching their "Your Butt is Old" social networking site.  The site will host TV clips, guys saying phrases that aren't worth saying, and constant reminders of how old you are.

But, I actually think out of the hundreds of useless Social Networking sites out there now, this one is going to do pretty good.  It really doesn't matter how old you are, everybody likes the 60's and 70's, and a good deal of young folk prefer the long gone decades.

The site will be targeting the 35 and up crowd, but I'm willing to bet they get hit with the 18 to 25 groups much harder than they think.   Anybody from the era's while find the site fun for about a week, mainly because everything offered is sitting right there on your desk.

But having said that,  this is a pretty darn good idea, I think it will have legs.

Take a look

Technorati, b5media. The Deals Off Man, The Deals Off!

Images

It seems like Technorati has been struggling as of late to find it's identity.  The blog resource has had a bit of settling to do after the abrupt departure of it's founding CEO and ongoing battles over how its ranking system works.  But, whatever the case, Technorati is without a doubt a major force on the web.

Up and coming Canadian hit b5media, according to sources to "TechCrunch" was in the perfect position to swoop in and partner up with Technorati and help move it into a stronger Ad force online with an instant additional 340 blogs.

But, as quiet as it was kept, those talks broke down.  Sources told TechCrunch that their were problems with CEO's and full disclosure.

Oh the things that go on right under our noses.
