YouTube Today! Dr. Shrinker!

Continuing my trip down kick butt themes song lane, is today's entry "Dr.Shrinker".  Sid & Marty Krofft owned children's TV in the 70's, everything they did dripped with hip and LSD.  They also had a knack for finding musicians that could write a theme for a goofy kid show that could have been played on 70's radio.

In this case it's particularly surprising because this theme was sung by "The Osmonds".  Shock you?  Of course it does, because this could have been one of Cheap Tricks early throw away songs.

YouTube Today! Super Chicken

One of the great things about a road trip is the inane conversations had while trying to forget that your stuck in a moving vehicle.  Lucky for me, this weekend I was stuck with a group I like, and one with a great flare for the inane. 

As conversation moves from everything under the sun, it ultimately gets to great crap from ones TV youth.  We were all fortunate enough to be children when TV still ran reruns of great cartoons and live action shows from the 60's.  One of which was a moronic toon called Super Chicken, in which the hero had to have a cocktail to gain his super power.  It was called "Super Sauce" and he literally drank it from a Martini glass.   

But aside from the sheer genius of that, we're all musicians, so can you guess why this one is such a fond memory?  Yep, the theme song has to be on a short list of all time great theme songs!

Top Ten Unsportsman Like Plays!

Caught this heads up on Digg.  Great little piece from ESPN listing what they deem is the top ten unsportsmanlike plays.

As far as I am concerned, they left out a ton of more aggregious plays from players in many different sports.  But really, unsportsmanlike covers a lot of ground.  How about when The referees stole a game winning field goal from the Cleveland Browns?  The ball was kicked, it was.  Then they stopped the game looked at a replay and called a penalty which negated the goal and the Browns lost.  Once the ball is snapped, the refs cannot go back and look at the play.  A major rule that was blatantly broken on national TV.  And Yes!  I'm still "Bitter".

That's the height of unsportsmanship.

I could sit here and wax poetic about Steely Dan, Donald Fagen and this particular song for the rest of the day.  But I won't.  For whatever reason, maybe because it's starting to heat up here in Los Angeles, so the evening air is beginning to lend itself to their brand of breeziness.  Or I'm feeling like entering this weekend like I entered the summer before entering High School when this song was released.  Ready for the New Frontier.   Whichever the case, I thought this would be a good way to start the weekend of right.

Okay so this video is fro the Meadowlands so what!  I have no idea why I got up this morning and wanted to hear "YOU WANTED THE BEST! YOU GOT THE BEST"!  Sometimes you just want to feel like a little kid, back when you were in awe of something, and I was definitely in awe of Kiss.

My uncle, who is five years older, and I, used to use a broom and mop. He was always Gene and I was always Paul.  The mop was five times bigger than I was but it didn't matter, because I was Starchild! It doesn't matter how young and how long ago certain things are, there are events that one can never forget, and Kiss was a huge part of my early years!  And the way we used to jump around the room in our Garanimals, is exactly how I feel to this day every time I hear this song.
