I thought I would let the Apple hype die down a bit before I asked my question. Like I said in an earlier post, the iPhone is even giving this Apple fan a headache!
But, now that all of the cats have been let out of the bag, has your opinion changed on the iPhone? Did the third party apps announcement sway you? Okay so it's not to the degree that we would all like at the moment but I think there's something us bloggers and Forum members forget.
Even though that forum you belong to has a ton of members, or that blog you own gets 100k visitors a day, all of them combined still make a a very small amount of the broader public. We are all here because we love this stuff. We get passionate about our devices. They become second or third hobbies to obsess over. But most folks don't care as much as we do. I have had many, many discussions with treo owners who havent the slightest idea what their treo can do. And when I try to tell them, they simply gloss over and say "I'll never use that" Then why buy such an advanced device? "Because it looked cool".
This is the wider public. Most folks buy items because of hype, design and last minute necessity. It's like that crap song you hate on the radio on the way to work. The song plays once, twice an hour everyday all day and before you know it, you're singing the tune and downloading it from iTunes. Marketing figured this out a long time ago and really perfected it in the last ten years. Most folks have too much on their mind to pay attention to detail.
The fact that the iPhone doesn't have every spec that we "obsessed" think would make it the Noah's Ark of cellular technology, that in no way means that it won't sell like crazy. Even a great deal of us cynical over demanding tech heads will bow to the pressure of it's achievements.
So, as a cynical over demanding tech head, has the new iPhone info changed your opinion? Are you now re-thinking your decision wether to buy or not to Buy? We would love to know your thoughts!
Hi,
First things first, if I had a ton of money to spare, I would get one!
But to be honest, even if it can do some internet/googlemaps/ipod things slightly better than my treo, for now I see no need to replace it.
Its possible I missed it, but I think the lack of being able to view and edit docs is a real let down. The 3rd party developers will surely help, and it will make or brake the iphone in my opinion. Thinking while typing, if the iphone can do internet as well as Steve says, will google docs run???
Well maybe I will just get the second version. For now I am just very happy with my treo!
love the site btw!
