When I saw the blog about Hitler and his heinie henchman lip syncing to the sound of that revered Village People song, "YMCA", I did what every self-respecting reader of this blog did - I hurried over to YouTube to see if I could catch what all the fuss was about. No dice. It was down. Believe me, I tried several of the copies posted and all came with that annoying sign - this video has been removed due to copyright blah blah blah. Copyrights? I mean do they even exist anymore? Doesn't anything any artist does immediately belong to everyone but him/her? I think I understand how the authors of the song, and the 500 people who sent take down requests on the video (or the 5 people who wrote 100 each - whichever), feel about the song. My family suffered mightily at the hands of Hitler's goons as well. Personally I enjoy any opportunity to make the world's most notorious mass murderer look ridiculous and cause everyone to have a good laugh at him. It seems a good way to get revenge - make him the brunt of every joke you can. But some people see it differently, and that's their right. Plus there is that whole copyright issue. Does that mean they can come and get my pirated copies of the "In the Navy" that I downloaded off of Limewire? Anyway, that's a bit off subject. Cause while I was at YouTube I found out that making fun of Hitler is a widely held passion. There were scores of videos using the little dictator in the most unpleasant ways.
For instance one favorite was the clip from Downfall. a brilliant German film about the last days in the bunker. It was so real that it really left me spooked, raising the hairs on my neck upon viewing. That's why when I saw this video using footage from Downfall, with subtitles about Hitler being informed that his Microsoft Live account had been banned, I laughed so hard I cried and peed my pants at the same time.
Family Guy has made so much hay with der motherfuhrer that there's a Best of Hitler from the show.
Mel Brooks seems to have an attitude like mine. I mean look at what an ass he made of Hitler's image in The Producers. And he remade the Jack Benny classic To Be Or Not To Be in which he doused Hitler with the comedy. He even released a Hitler Rap video that is sheer genius. So if we can't have YMCA, at least we this. Of course look out, here comes the master race in Springtime For Hitler.
Monty Python had one of the best takes on evil incarnate when they revisited Hitler in England. But he called himself Hilter so no on would know.
In place of YMCA, try the 1978 club hit "Born To Be Alive" sung in the video by Mein Kampf's author hisself.
So if you are so inclined have a good laugh at Hitler. It's the last thing he would have wanted you to do, which makes it such delicious revenge for me.
