Hey folks, I just say a shot of the Palm Centro next to what Engadget Mobile is saying is a Treo 755p and I must say, it's not looking too shabby.
Just from the pictures it looks like it the device should have some legs to do well aimed at the target demographic.
They are also reporting something I have never heard connected with any phone carrier - the OQO 2. If they didn't have the picture I wouldn't believe it.
But the only question that remains is why? The device, even smaller than an UMPC, is more a micro computer that doesn't have any sort of telephony anything inside. Why is Sprint in bed with OQO for this device?
Why Sprint, a cell phone company, wants to release a device that is a computer is beyond me.
---------------
Okay, quick update. OQO must have pitched this to Sprint AND Verizon as a mobile broadband solution since it is all over their website as having this feature available from these two carriers. But with a starting price of $1,299, I'm at a loss for who this device is for on the Sprint network and, if they really wanted a micro computer to begin with, why would they buy it from Sprint?
And, moreover, if they wanted a device that would give them high speed access, why not spring for the cheaper HTC Advantage?
I'm still no closer to an answer as to the strange bedfellows of OQO and Sprint (especially over the Advantage) but the Centro still looks kinda quite. If only my heart were not already pledged to HP for the upcoming iPAQ 910 ....
Sprint and Verizon Wireless are partners of OQO (my employer), but they do not sell our products. OQO model 02 is a handheld computer -- it runs Windows (Vista or XP), all your normal Windows software (Outlook, SAP, Flash, Firefox, Windows, games, etc.), and it fits comfortably in the palm of your hand or in a pocket. It weighs 1 pound (depends on config) and measures 6 inches x 3.5 inches x 1 inch. If you want to do some work on the corporate network, or want to have full access to all your information, applications, and web sites no matter where you are, then the OQO model 02 is a great solution. If you'd like to know more, please visit http://www.oqo.com/ - thanks!
