i-Mate's 9502: The SideKick for grownups

i-Mate, the company most of us in the States have never heard of has finally posted the last two of their Ultimate line, the 8502 and 9502.

Now, the one that caught my attention is the 9502. Here are the specs:

• Windows Mobile 6 Professional smartphone
• thumb-keyboard under the sliding display
• Qualcomm MSM 7200 chip at 400 MHz
• quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE, triband UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA
• WiFi b/g Bluetooth 2.0+EDR and GPS
• 256 MB ROM, 128 MB RAM
• microSD card
• 3.0 megapixel auto focus camera with photo light
• 2.8″ VGA touchscreen

I am intrigued with this phone because of its unique form factor for Windows Mobile 6 devices. Sure, we have the Sprint Mogul, the T-Mobile Wing and the AT&T Tilt, all with slide out QWERTY keyboards. But what we don't have is a SideKick like device for grown-ups.

Yes, faithful readers, the touchscreen slides open to reveal a QWERTY keyboard running Windows Mobile 6 Professional. That means all the e-mail, Microsoft Office editing, texting goodness your thumbs can type on a device that still gives you a large(r than average) touchscreen to get your touch on.

Thanks to i-Mate, now us grown ups can have some fun too get some real work done.

Here are the specs for the 8502 which aren't bad as a Treo like device:

From the i-Mate Press Release:

The Ultimate 8502 and 9502 will be coming to market later in the fourth quarter of 2007, and will also be available directly from i-mate and through national distributors and resellers nationwide.

So, looks like both of these will be available before the holidays. Not bad i-Mate, not bad.
