Lee Thomas, a Detroit news Anchor has "Vitiligo" a very rare disorder ( If reversed it would be termed a disease ) that kills the pigment making cells and causes blotches or white patches to form on different parts of the body. Those who watch the Anchor have seen his hands go from brown to white.
--- "There is no cause. There is no cure, and it's very random," Thomas says. "I could turn all the way white or mostly white."---
So uh, yeah....Apparently Michael Jackson may have been telling the truth right? Thomas says there is no cause and no cure. There are more than 65 million people worldwide, 2 million of them American who have the disease.
-- He didn't let it slow down his blossoming career. From Louisville, he soon landed at WABC in New York for three years beginning in 1994. After a short freelancing stint in Los Angeles, California, Thomas found his way to WJBK in Detroit, Michigan, in 1997. He has carved a niche in the Motor City market with his quirky, upbeat and humorous reporting style; his confidence, constant smile and positive air on the set mirrors his demeanor off the set as well. ---
People like this amaze me. He didn't let it stop his goals. It reminds me of Bree Walker here in Los Angeles when she Anchored the news. She didn't allow her ectrodactyly (her fingers and toes are fused together) stop her from doing what she wanted to do, and she didn't shy away from letting the camera show her hands.
But I'm in the dark ages when it comes to Vitiligo. I had no idea something like this was real. It must be bizarre to watch this happen on television, but it a weird way, fascinating. Not that he is weird, but to watch another wonder of mother nature take effect right before your very eyes. Big kudos to this guy for having the strength and character to allow us the opportunity.
