First of all, even if Stacey Peterson were to show up five minutes after you read this post, wouldn't you want to see him arrested still, just for being such a complete jackass? I would.
Among all the shavings and, micros and fluids, authorities have seized the GPS unit "OnStar" from Peterson's vehicle. But OnStar says they don't keep such data.
--- “We do not track our subscribers’ vehicles—that’s the bottom line,” spokesman Jim Kobus said. “The only time we would know where the vehicle is, is when the driver initiates contact to OnStar or when the vehicle has been in an accident, the air bag deploys and the vehicle automatically calls us for help.” ---
But, the authorities would have to have known that prior to getting the warrant to seize and ask OnStar Inc, for the data. This leads me to believe that OnStar's statement is just that, a statement. If they were to let it be known that the little push button helper actually keeps track of everyplace you go, and OnStar retains the info, a lot less units would find there way to cars.
This could potentially mean that another victim (the right to privacy) has been abducted, and the number one suspect is without a doubt, the perpetrator of a lie and a crime, giving this case an unintended casualty, OnStar Inc.
If a case is built on Drew Peterson and the GPS data taken from OnStar is admitted as evidence, then the cat will be out of the bag, and the potential for a host of lawsuits will surely follow.
