You know, Mobius happened at the end of last week and I was seriously miffed that all the new stuff for Windows Mobile 6.1 were revealed under NDA. Microsoft, at their own event, decided not to let anyone share what they had to show with the rest of us.
But, since everything hidden will come to the light, Boy Genius is posting all over the Internet 100 screen shots of the new UI and the tasty little tidbits nestled with the upgrade for Windows Mobile Standard.
Boy Genius is slower than molasses on a cold winter's morning right now but from what I can see, I'm going to be lovin' Windows Mobile even more than I am now.
According to The Boy Genius Report:
- Copy / Paste (finally!)
- Domain Enroll in Settings (Enrolling in a domain will connect your device with company resources.)
- New home screen (pan left and right to check out missed calls, notifications like email, sms, etc.)
- Change Master Security Code
- Added text input settings
- Recent Programs when pressing Start menu
- Threaded SMS!
- When you compose an email, or SMS, and start typing the name of the contact in the "To:" field, the contact names finally pop up like Windows Mobile Professional!
The new interface looks really slick, I'll have to wait to see if it is slick enough to replace Facade and SmartToolKit (really all depends on how customizable are the customizations) but all of the other features I am really looking forward to, especially threaded SMS.
Now Boy Genius has the scoop even though there were a whole host of other "blog heavyweights" who have to sit around on their hands looking like they were scooped.
Frankly, this looks to be little more than a package of bug fixes and some relatively minor new features in the Windows Mobile platform (not that I don't immediately want them for my Mogul, mind you).
As for the new UI, I am willing to bet that this is an AT&T exclusive much the same as the Shadow for T-Mobile.

Thanks for the comment GoodThings2Life.
But I don't think this is a AT&T exclusive. Boy Genius and many others (including Morning Paper) had posted some screen shots before of the new UI for Windows Mobile 6 that are very similar.
The real question will be if they get it out the door as some have reported will be happening following the Mobius conference last week.
I still don't think it will get me off of Facade and SmartToolKit but you never know. If they haven't fixed the very basic design of the way the calendar works, I think I'll stick with what I have.
