Have you ever been behind someone driving like an idiot only to find, out as you aggresively attempt to pass them, that they are on the phone? Did you pass them because you were using your bluetooth and thought you were cool? Read on!
There are recent studies that show that accidents and overall traffic is slowed by people yapping while driving.
New computer simulations show that chatty drivers — using regular cell phones or even hands free devices take longer to complete their trips because they drive more slowly on highways and pass sluggish drivers less frequently. "If you talk on the phone while you're driving, it's going to take you longer to get from point A to point B, and it's going to slow down everybody else on the road," said Joel Cooper, a University of Utah psychology doctoral student who assisted with the study.
Research by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety suggests that using a hands-free device instead of a hand-held phone while behind the wheel will not necessarily improve safety. Drivers using cellular phones are four times as likely to get into a crash that can cause injuries serious enough to send them to the hospital, said an insurance study released Tuesday. The institute said it was the first attempt to estimate whether phone use increases the risk of an injury crash in automobiles.
I just drove back to northeast Ohio from southeast Tennessee on Wednesday. 11 hour drive, and I did it all with only the company of my Zune and music collection.
People who drive while chatting on the phone absolutely drive me insane, and were it legal to do so, I would have bought a tank instead of a sedan so I could run or shoot them off the road.
