In a move that is even surprising to me, according to the::unwired, Samsung is finally getting around to releasing that upgrade for the BlackJack from Windows Mobile 5 to Windows Mobile 6.
Samsung is excited to work with AT&T and
Microsoft to bring loyal fans of the BlackJack an opportunity to refresh their experience with the Windows Mobile 6 upgrade," said Samsung Chief Marketing Officer, Bill Ogle. "The upgrade will enhance mobile productivity with key feature enhancements such as Video Share calling and Microsoft Office Mobile.""AT&T customers continue to love the BlackJack and the availability of Windows Mobile 6 capabilities presents them with a winning combination that brings the BlackJack to new heights in terms of functionality," said Michael Woodward, AT&T vice president, Business Voice/Data and Mobility Products. "It's a great enhancement to AT&T's industry leading Windows Mobile device portfolio."
I certainly didn't think they would do it but here's to Samsung for following through and not worrying about cannibalizing sales of the BlackJack II. The original BlackJack was and is still a great device that people have helped make a good seller for AT&T (then Cingular).
Funny how it's Samsung doing this as a direct download from their site as opposed to coming from AT&T who are the exclusive US carriers of the device.
Guess the guys at AT&T decided to take a pass on a direct deployment (while obviously giving good PR speak) and keep pushing the BlackJack II as the only upgrade for current BlackJack owners.
I would doubt rank and file AT&T reps probably know about this so will keep pushing the BlackJack II as the only BlackJack to have Windows Mobile 6, especially if it doesn't even appear on the AT&T website.
No need to confuse the helpless masses so we can keep selling those phones.
For all BlackJack owners, the update is said to go live at 5 PM EST from the Samsung website (again, NOT from AT&T). Here's the pre-release FAQ.
