When Do German Telecoms Go Wrong? When They Claim The Master Color

  Cheap shot?  Yeah you're probably right.  But this is so ridiculous that I had to post on it. 

Deutsche Telekom sent a letter via their legal department to big daddy Engadget,  prompting them to perform a swift and immediate foreclosure on the use of the "color magenta" on the Engadget Mobile site.

  It seems the German telecom company feels they have a patented right to the color as it applies to anything to do with company logo. 

Some lesson are hard to learn.  you can't own a color people.  But me thinks this was an elaborate plane to get them in the news cycle, and damnit I feel for it.

Yesterday a friend asked me about a one hit wonder song from the 80's. Normally I'm the music encyclopedia guy, but I couldn't remember. So I promptly went on a search eventually finding it. But in the process I came across a site with a 80's music Lyrics quiz.

Normally I don't go in for that sort of thing but I figured what the hell. Actually it was pretty fun, kudos to the author. I scored pretty well, but on the ones I missed, it was funny to hear the song play in my head when the right lyric was shown. Well, for me at least.

There are 103 questions, some easy most hard, example:

Anyway, it's a good way to test your 80's skills and memory of classics and plain ole stupid songs as well. If you've got the time head over and test your skills. But come back and tell me how you did. Also, no cheating, no Google searches or running to your "best of the 80's" party CD's.

Murray Reviews The Nokia E90

Here's the mark of a true Mac fan. Anyone who has visit Murray over at Palm-Mac knows that he goes thru more phones than a toddler goes thru shoes. But all of that has changed since he bit the Apple and got himself a iPhone. it's hard to beat that thing once you start playing with it. That is of course unless you're a hater, but even then you're only kidding yourself.

Anyway, try as he might, and I don't blame him, Murray took a shot at the Nokia E90. His review makes for a good read. "Some of you guessed it correctly, the new device is or was rather, the Nokia E90, which was very much a spur of the moment acquisition which more than a tad reeks of slight desperation. I just fancied one...not sure why though, I think to get a really powerful all in pda style thing with a good keyboard. I also like the idea of Symbian, mainly because it's not Windows Mobile I suppose....."

More Google App Talk

You've read me talk about how much I'm beginning to like and rely on Google apps. It's a lot better than loading up my 755p with a bunch of treo resetting apps. But if you don't believe me, take a look at what Murray has to say.

--- About a month ago I started writing this post about how more and more online based service sites were appearing and offering online storage for various things like pics and docs and videos. I don't think I ever bothered publishing it but the general point I was trying to make was that 1) - I didn't like the idea of having a lot of personal stuff plastered all over the web and 2) - I was worried about these sort of sites going down for periods of time and therefore losing access when you probably most needed it. To back up point number 2 I listed various sites that had in fact had "outages" during the same week as reported by some of the sites that I frequent most often ---

A Good Question

Murray from Palm=Mac ask a pretty good question about the current Treo Hardware. ---- What if other manufacturers were still making Palm o/s devices? It seems like an eternity since this happened almost to the point where now it seems like it is only Palm who have ever made them. It would be very interesting to see how far the likes of Sony or say, HTC, would have taken the treo form factor and developed it. It's a fair guess too to say that these manufacturers would have advanced the palm interface as well, probably to the point where we'd be less antagastic towards Palm for sitting on their Jimmy Jacksies for the last 3 years. We'd probably see devices like the forthcoming S730 running palm if HTC were involved.----

They've Found A Reason To Throw Your iPhone In The Trash

In the ongoing effort to help users of any other Smartphone feel okay about their devices, the search for why your iPhone sucks continues. A test run by user Cedric confirms that you should throw your iPhone in the trash and forget it ever happened.

User Cedric collected data from over 60 participants who all typed in specific text on the iPhone and hard key QWERTY keyboards. The data uncovered that there were more typos made by the iPhone users.

See, it sucks, give it up.

I spent a day with the iPhone. I had a bit of trepidation after reading all the posts about the one finger typing and how hard it was to type blah, blah blah. I was tying with both thumbs ten minutes after I had it in my hand. I have typos when typing on my treo 755p all of the time. Hell, I have typos when typing on my friggin computer keyboard, just take a look around.

BIG DEAL! Aren't there better studies to conduct?

A Palm Man Turns Blackberry Fan

PJ Arts of PalmAddict fame, my brother in 700p arms has done it. The long time (even longer than me) Treo user has switched up and moved over to the darkside, the side that gets brighter and brighter every week. Peter got himself a Blackberry 8830 World Phone, a very capable device. Funny, I was thinking the same thing.....

---Why move to RIM, after owning every Palm OS Treo made? A lot of it is my new requirement for a world-phone. I will now be making periodic business trips to Europe; and, that eliminates Palm OS Treos. Although WinMo v6 appears to be a much-improved platform, my experience with WinMo over the years makes me reluctant to trust my business communications to it. Finally, I want to stay with Sprint. I have had terrific luck with their coverage, call reliability, data speed and service over the past several years. All of those factors (and some cracking reviews) seemed to focus right down to the 8830. This RIM device will run on Sprint's fast EvDO in the US and Canada; and, when overseas, its unlocked SIM card will automatically provide me with GSM/EDGE service (the Verizon version has a locked SIM card...but, whaddaya expect from them?).---
