Europe's shiny new $2 billion science lab, Columbus, was anchored to the international space station Monday by a team of astronauts laboring inside and out.
STS-122 and Expedition 16 crew members worked together Monday to attach the European Space Agency’s Columbus Laboratory to the International Space Station’s Harmony module.
During STS-122’s first spacewalk, Mission Specialists Rex Walheim and Stanley Love bolted the Power and Data Grapple Fixture (PDGF) to the Columbus module. The PDGF provided a grapple point for the station’s robotic arm. The spacewalkers installed power cables on Columbus and reinstalled the debris shields they had removed earlier.
STS-122 Mission Specialists Leland Melvin and Daniel Tani, along with Expedition 16 Flight Engineer Leopold Eyharts, used the orbital outpost’s robotic arm to guide Columbus into position for final installation. Columbus was officially attached to the right side of the Harmony module at 4:44 p.m. EST.
Meanwhile, the spacewalkers completed some work to prepare for the replacement of the Nitrogen Tank Assembly (NTA), part of the station’s thermal control system, on the P1 truss.
The 7-hour, 58-minute excursion concluded at 5:11 p.m.
Walheim and Mission Specialist Hans Schlegel will complete the replacement of the NTA and install trunnion covers on Columbus during STS-122’s second spacewalk, slated to begin Wednesday at 9:35 a.m.
The fledgling Miami Dolphins brought in the always over rated Trent Green to save the day but this plan was not well thought out. Now that Bill Parcell's in Miami he is cleaning house as needed and the slackers were the first to go. Trent Green and Marty Booker will find places somewhere in the desperatly over expanded NFL but their mediocrity will continue. It will be intersting to see what moves are next, well, not really since that team has very little talent it won't matter who goes. It will be important who the organization goes and gets.
Parcells has already reshaped the front office, firing general manager Randy Mueller and other members of the team's player personnel staff. The coaching staff was rebuilt, most notably with Tony Sparano brought in to replace Cam Cameron. The great thing for Parcell's is there is only one way to go from the 2007 season.
Yahoo plans to reject Microsoft's $44.6 billion takeover bid, the Wall Street Journal reported Saturday, citing a person familiar with the situation.
The source, according to the paper, said Yahoo's board believes Microsoft's offer of $31 per share "massively undervalues" the company and does not account for the risk that a deal could be blocked by regulators.
The source also said that the company is unlikely to consider any offer below $40 per share, according to the paper. Such a premium would increase the value of the takeover offer by $12 billion.
I am not sure what these guys are thinking but it appears the some big EGOs are getting in the way of a deal that is already at a huge premium. Yahoo is in some trouble and this looks like a pretty solid bailout. We will have to wait and see what happens next.
Did you get your Jordan XX3's yet!
My guess is nope! These things are currently selling for as high as $3,000 on Ebay. I love capitalism but isn't this a bit much for a pair of shoes marketed around a guy who has been retired for years. The limited release made this the most sought after shoe lauch ever. Did I mention you can get a pair for a few thousand on Ebay. As an FYI, there are a few more styles coming so beware.
A newly engineered, patent-pending, stitching machine delivers intricate detailing in the upper portion of the shoe. The low midsole profile allows players to be as close to the ground as possible and feel the court. Unique design cues such as the imprint of Michael Jordan’s fingerprint serving as the traction pattern on the outsole and his thumbprint on the back of the tongue lining bring to life the man that makes the franchise so special.
This Air Jordan XX3 was created with the environment in mind. Though it’s not completely “green,” they have done everything possible to create less waste and use no toxic materials.
Jordan Brand is set to launch several colorways of the Air Jordan XX3. An exclusive limited release will launched on Friday, January 25, 2008 with a suggested retail price of $230. An All-Star release will launch on Saturday, February 16, 2008 and the nationwide launch will be released on Saturday, February 23, 2008 both with a suggested retail price of $185.
This is a very comforting story, so read on.
The satellite, which no longer can be controlled, could contain hazardous materials, and it is unknown where on the planet it might come down, they said. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because the information is classified as secret. It was not clear how long ago the satellite lost power, or under what circumstances.
"Appropriate government agencies are monitoring the situation," said Gordon Johndroe, a spokesman for the National Security Council, when asked about the situation after it was disclosed by other officials. "Numerous satellites over the years have come out of orbit and fallen harmlessly. We are looking at potential options to mitigate any possible damage this satellite may cause."
It is nice to see the fed milking money out of the greedy wireless players. The problem is that they are so stupid they are giving it back to the poor people in the form of a tax rebate. What the hell is that about? Where is my stimulus. I am purposely going to spend $600 less as soon as those checks start going out to offset at least one persons waste of that money. Anyway, I digressed a bit, sorry. Here are some details on the auction.
The bidding topped $3.7 billion on the second day of the Federal Communications Commission's auction of government-owned airwaves, but there were no new suitors Friday for a closely watched block of spectrum to be shared with public safety agencies.
The $3.7 billion, up from $2.78 billion on Thursday, represented the highest bids received for five separate blocks of spectrum in the auction, which is eventually expected to net the federal government at least $10 billion.
However, there were no new bids on a nationwide piece of the spectrum, known as the "D" block, which must be shared with public safety agencies under auction rules set by the agency. Thursday's bid of $472 million still stood.
In an article from ASK.com they reviewed the top 10 cars you should drive before you die. Here is a look at # 1
Bugatti Veyron
In the time it takes you to say "0 to 60," a Bugatti Veyron could be well on its way to doing so; requiring about 2.5 seconds to nail it. In the time you've spent reading this article, a Veyron could have burned its 26.4-gallon fuel supply. At full throttle, it goes from full to fumes in about 12.5 minutes. At this rate, the tires will be nearing the end of their service life as well. However, given enough suitable track, you'll have at least achieved a tad over 250 mph for your trouble. On any single one of these figures, the nearly $1.5-million supercar wouldn't stand with such regard. Yet for all this performance, technology, exclusivity, and desirability to come together on four wheels with such precision and ease of use is more than reason enough to make this the ultimate car to drive before you die. Web portal Yahoo is in early discussions with major record labels to offer an online music service, the Associated Press reported.
The report, dated late Wednesday, quoted two unnamed record company executives and said details are still being negotiated and that Yahoo could offer the MP3 files either for sale or for free as part of an ad-supported service. It appears to me that Yahoo better do somehting if they are going to keep up with the all the competitors out there. As a stock holder I like all the good news I can get.
It looks like the Sprint Cronies will be the only ones left to go down with the sinking ship known as Sprint.
The new CEO is cleaning house by ousting what was left of the Nextel senior leadership team. As an FYI, this will not help keep customers from leaving. The marketing piece I can understand but Saleh and Angelino are solid guys who know how to get things done. Sales performance has not been the problem so why oust the Harvard wonder boy who has done a really good job keeping the sales organization from crumbling during the biggest merger debacle in the history of wireless? Explanations about the ongoing bad decisions are fruitless and not worth the time spent. The press release is below for your enjoyment.
Sprint today announced changes in its senior management team. Paul Saleh, Chief Financial Officer, Tim Kelly, Chief Marketing Officer, and Mark Angelino, president, Sales and Distribution will leave the company Friday, January 25.
"I want to thank each of these individual leaders for their dedication and contributions to Sprint Nextel," said Dan Hesse, president and CEO, Sprint Nextel. "I wish them all the best in their future endeavors."
William G. Arendt, currently senior vice president and controller of Sprint Nextel, will serve as acting Chief Financial Officer. John Garcia, currently senior vice president, Product Development and Management, will serve as acting Chief Marketing Officer. Paget Alves, currently Sprint Nextel's regional president for sales and distribution, will serve as acting president, Sales and Distribution. All will report directly to Hesse.
"Permanent leaders will be named in conjunction with a review of overall strategy and an effort to streamline operations," Hesse said. "I have no predetermined timeframe in filling these positions but plan to act as quickly as possible as I consider both internal and external candidates."
Additional Background on Arendt (SPRINT CRONIE/EMPTY SUIT)
Arendt, age 50, was appointed senior vice president and controller at the time of the Sprint Nextel merger in August 2005. At Nextel, he served in senior finance positions from 1997 through the time of the merger.
Additional Background on Garcia (SPRINT CRONIE/EMPTY SUIT)
Over the course of the last 13 years Garcia, age 53, has held senior leadership positions in product development, sales and marketing.
Additional Background on Alves (SPRINT CRONIE/EMPTY SUIT)
Prior to his role as Sprint Nextel's South Regional President, Alves, age 53, served in various sales and marketing leadership positions in the company, including enterprise sales, strategic markets and wholesale services.
I would like to add that ALL the guys filling in for the ousted execs. are Sprint Cronies and "EMPTY SUITS" who like to talk a big game but accomplish nothing. There is plenty of that going at Sprint these days. I feel bad for the employees who actually believe that the company has a future.
